In many of the programs, where miles cancel if no activity in the account in X years, donation of 5k miles is an alternative to buying a useless magizine subscription or flowers.

I have miles scattered over 8 ff programs or so, and wife has another 8. I try to cover the cancels with car rentals, but sometimes the 5k donation to save the 100k miles is the only alternatitave. particularly in dec, when one gets around to checking.

I found the transfers in to be the only useful part of Diners Club, and dc miles for a number of programs.
