Spiff, I think that this would apply - if you only connect international to international it is probably treated as being outside tax - a bit like "Duty Free". Now whether this applies to flights coming in from the EU I would not like to say. UK tax rules are complicated and inconsistent.

OT but we cannot open the bars on the ground as they are "bonded" but all the passengers can buy alchohol in the Duty Free (I speak of flights outside the EU) without duty or VAT (but plenty of profit! as is said in these parts "Go Figure!!")
