You do not get miles when withdrawing cash.
As I said, the Aadvantage Debit Card gives you one mile per dollar on this transaction. Therefore I get miles for my tax payment without the convenience fee.
That's "what is so wonderful" about it.
If you'd rather have the float on a check payment, then fine, but it's not much of a float. In my experience the IRS cashes the check pretty fast.
As I said, through H&R Block's offer you get miles and pay no convenience fee. That is really the fee at issue here. Nevertheless, the potential other fees are (1) loss of float on a check (2) annual fee for the debit card if you don't already have it and (3) cost of H&R Tax Software if you do your taxes by hand. You can decide yourself if those are worth the miles.
As a side note, Citizens Bank also has a reward program on their debit cards, but I don't think it's for miles.
Have you seen any miles into a FFP (AA?) account with the use of a debit card yet? Can you point me to those threads discussing miles using a debit card, and which (cards and airlines) offer such opportunities?
I would love to find out I was wrong in my skepticism about this. And if I am wrong, I will be most appreciative of you for educating me.
