Oct 24. I read somewhere--I think in Dvorak's blog--that RC3 (now available) is the same as the final version, but I'm waiting for the auto-update on the offchance that one or more third-party-developed extensions might not yet be finished. Here's what's new:

OK - that lead seems to be exactly what the issue is - for anyone else that needs a VERY quick fix visit:

I'll play around with oher settings now, given your advice.
The following is not directed at the poster--it is directed at anybody who is reading this thread who does not know about Cleartype:

Please do not assume that turning off Cleartype is a "fix". If your Cleartype is already on, you may notice unwanted jaggedness in your fonts if you turn it off. If you follow the link mentioned in the previous post, you may see an unchecked box and incorrectly assume that your Cleartype is off, even though it may actually be on (the link mentioned in the previous post is for "tuning" Cleartype). You can check whether Cleartype is on or off by going here:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypeFAQ.mspx
and clicking on : "How do I turn it on?" Once you know whether your computer has it turned on or off, you can try it both ways, decide which you like better, and use the tuner page mentioned in the previous post if you wish to use it.
