I concur with Glen. Temazepam works great, but I usually take just 10mg. Doesn't really knock me out, but I can doze off more easily, and time seems to pass more quickly. If I need to be awake, I'm awake within a moment.
For staying awake, once you're at your destination, (but only if you're actively doing something) Modafinil works well, and you don't seem to have to make up for the lost sleep. I only use it for up to 2 days max, to help acclimatise, and it's important to note that if you're not busy, you'll just nod off like normal. Like Glen, I am only reporting what works FOR ME and not saying that everybody would get the same results AS ME.
