The last time I visited Rotorua it was with my spouse and daughters and we stayed at the Royal Lakeside Novotel. I did meet a business acquaintance Bloke for lunch at Peppers one day. He and his wife were guests there and invited my wife and I to join them. The lunch was perfect and the service, hotel and environs were impeccable. I don't know what the tariff was for accomodations there, but it must have been quite substantial!

By the way, we did enjoy the Lakeside Novotel as a family-friendly spot so much that my daughters and I stayed at the Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square in Bangkok, Thailand a few months later. That property is also owned by the same Thai family which owns the Royal Lakeside Novotel in Rotorua.
