Here is the real issue. If the BB switches to local time, it adjusts the appointment times to match.
Having been schooled by Outlook on my laptop, I always enter my appointments for the correct local time; i.e. if I'm on the east coast and know I have a meeting at 3PM on the west coast, I enter the appointment for 6PM Eastern. When I get to that time zone, I change my laptop's time zone setting to the current local time zone, and my appointment is automatically adjusted to the correct local time.

If I receive appointments in Outlook from individuals in other time zones, they're automatically added with the correct local time, as long as my time zone is set correctly for my current location.

Now, if it were possible for my laptop to figure out where it is automatically, there theoretically would be no need to manually set the time zone, because it would know which time zone it was in and set it automatically. All that would be required on my part is that I create appointments for other time zones at the correct local time for the time zone I'm in; appointments sent by others take care of themselves. Unfortunately, this is not yet a standard feature on modern laptops. The thing is, the BlackBerry does know where it is (at least, which time zone), and we should be able to take advantage of that fact.

As my BlackBerry is synced with Outlook, the behavior above occurs when I manually change the time zone in its settings. But time zone data is included with the local time clock signal received from the cell towers, so I don't feel that setting the time zone manually should be required.

Does that make sense?
