Notice of changes to flight times...

During my recent trip down to GRU/GIG, I was flicking through the blackberry (during an authorised "look at blackberry during vacation" slot - I was under pain of death to use it for no more than 10 minutes every 2 days ) and noticed an e-mail from BA headed "Time Change - BA0246 GIG to LHR on 16 Oct 2006 : XXXXXXX".

On opening, sure enough our departure time had been brought forward by 1 hour (though the scheduled arrival time at LHR remained the same - I'm guessing that someone had forgotten a change in BST or the like when scheduling).

It kinda got me thinking on whether sending an e-mail 6 days ahead of the flight was sufficient action on the part of BA or not, whilst you know that the pax is down route (having carried them outbound) and hence is unlikely to be as close to their normal resources. It's fine if you happen to check your e-mails whilst on hols, but I'd imagine that a fair few people probably don't.

I'm guessing that with a one hour time difference, BA bank on the fact that most people check in 2 hours before a long haul trip anyway, so would still make the flight (just with less dwell time at the airport). As it was, we got away within about 20 mins of the revised departure time, so I guess it must have worked....

Thoughts?
