Canjet got in some serious trouble when they swapped out a part for a non-OEM part and very nearly caused a 767 (I think) to crash into the atlantic. THe plane was damaged when it landed and the insurers weren't going to cover it. Canada seems to be a tough place to do business. AC charges quite a bit to fly around, but it competes on price with the discount carriers.
WestJet is a decent option. I flew on one of their 738's. The plane was fairly new and had comfy leather seats. It was a low frills service but they did have TV. There were a handful of free channels and some PPV movies. It was alright for a 2.5 hour flight.
