Interesting idea. It is a OW award itinerary with 14 segments total. I had assumed that my options were:

1 - keep trying to get AA to find an earlier flight that day with award avaialbility

2 - when in Peru, try to get a same-day switch to the earlier flight at the airport

I didn't think about this as a strategy -- not sure how it would all work since the ticket was done by AA, but maybe I can get LAN to move us to the earlier flight.

What I don't want to risk is invalidating the whole award ticket. I will see what I can find out about this option. Interesting.
