I didn't understand the "threatening" comment myself, as I knew I could generate a "clean" reservation. For the size of its presence, I am generally very happy with UA ops at ONT - after a long hiatus it's even getting F seats back on a 1x/daily SFO-bound CR7 (currently scheduled 1 Nov - 13 Dec).
In a few weeks I will be headed on a trip where I will see SFO, LAX, ORD, DEN, and DCA (and of course, ONT). I think probability is on my side that I should be able to find a qualified ticketing agent at one of these stations. Indeed, mail is an option as well.
