$50 CS voucher only compensation for IDB?
My non status co-worker was IDBed from a UniTED flight 1451 from IAD to MIA this past Sunday (Oct. 15). The Ted flight left at 4:55pm and arrived MIA at 7:30pm. He was rebooked on an AA leaving IAD at 6:30pm and given a $50 customer service voucher and sent on his way. Not being a frequent traveler he did not ask for anything else. He did not sign anything at the gate when he got the voucher. When he arrived at the AA gate he was told he didn't have a seat because United did not properly endorse the ticket over to AA. He had to return to UA customer service, wait in line and by the time he got to a CSR he could no longer get him on the AA flight. UA's solution was for him to fly Monday at 12:50pm. When he explained that he had to be in Miami for meetings on Monday they put him on a 9:00pm American Flight from DCA that got him to Miami close to midnight. They refused to pay his cab fare to National or provide any additional compensation, telling him their only responsibility was to get him to Miami on their next available flight and they were doing him a big favor by putting on the American flight out of National.
On Monday morning after he talked to me, he called customer service to complain about being bumped and the lack of compensation, and sited the contract of carriage that I provided to him. They claimed a new COC was issued as of Aug 30, 2006 (which is available on United.Bomb) and under the terms of the COC, they only need to get him to his destination on the next United flight and since they put him on another carrier at no additional cost to him, he is not owed anything
I read the new COC and I don’t see any difference between that and the old one. His one way fare to Miami before taxes and fees was approximately $65. The way I figure it, he is owed at least $130. But United refuses, claiming they owe him nothing.
Any advice on who he should call or other guidance?
RIP...
