Considering a switch to SQ from UA ... some questions
Hi All,
Most of my travel is to SE Asia and is on my own dime. Due to time constraints I'm forced to make very short (3 - 4 day) trips so in-flight comfort is a big concern for me.
About a year ago I started routing all of my flights to originate in TPE (I live in the US) due to the much cheaper C and F fares that are available there. I've been using UA as my airline of choice for all of this travel (mostly due to 1K status and easy C -> F upgrades).
Recent experiences with UA F have me thinking that it's time to switch airlines. Since I'm payng for all of these flights myself I want to get as much as possible for my money. Unfortunately, I feel like UA's product has gotten so bad that I'm questioning the value that I'm getting for my dollars. To put it another way... on SQ I know that I'll be treated as a valued customer where as on UA I often find passengers treated as necessary evils...
Fares on SQare very good and I can easily justify the cost of an F ticket for travel to and from the US. I know that SQ's service is excellent and I'm sure that I'll be very happy with the choice to use SQ. The question becomes one of where to bank the miles. LH is obviously much more generous with CoS bonuses and I can see easily being able to rack of miles in their program. I can also just stick with UA and deal with a lower earn rate.
For those of you who fly considerable amounts in the SQ premium cabins where do you bank your miles? I'm especially interested in feedback from people who are based in the US. Should I stick with UA or look for a different program?
Currently I'm using miles mostly for upgrades and an occasional free ticket for my wife so that she can join me on these little adventures. Assuming that I stick with UA the SWUs will be used for travel to Europe since those C and F fares are considerably higher and I'll be forced to buy coach and upgrade.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Right now I'm stuck with UA through the end of the year, but I'm looking forward to starting up with SQ in January.
