Does AC follow standard flight disruption compensation guidelines?
I have had two flight cancellations resulting in overnight stays and 12 - 17 hour "delays" in reaching my final destination over the past three weeks (non-weather related). In the first case, AC provided everyone on the flight with a $200 MCO as compensation (and covered the cost of a hotel for the night), but it was past 2:00 a.m. local time before we reached the hotel. In the most recent instance, I had to cover my own hotel costs (no AC staff on-hand) and in lieu of any MCO I have so far received an entry on my Aeroplan account for 15,000 miles compensation under the title "AC JAZZ FLIGHT DISRUPTION 3HRSAIR CANADA".
My question is: does AC apply guidelines for setting compensation, or is it completely ad-hoc? Does compensation vary by status? I am thinking of pursuing both cases further (i.e. requesting more than the $200 MCO in case number 1 and at a minimum getting reimbursed for my hotel costs in case #2). Any advice?
Thanks,
SG
