This is a question for a friend of mine. She is travelling on JAL from HKG-LAX via NRT - however, on two separate tickets. JAL has said that she will need to clear customs/immigration and re-check in at NRT for the LAX flight as she is on a separate ticket.

She carries an Indian passport and thus needs a visa to legally enter Japan. However, JAL has said that she can get a 'Shore Pass' upon arrival, prior to immigration which will permit to enter Japan for up to 24 hours.

Has anyone had any experience with this?
