They are also not just sitting idle as the majority of the aircraft also do some light maintenance at the AA hangers. This will reduce the down time when they are back in OZ.
Qantas due to the nature of their routes may have aircraft with long hours but they also have fewer cycles, which puts more stress on the airframe than the flying hours. This means that their aircraft can be in better shape and have a longer life.
