Not impressed by Mandarin-Oriental

I recently stayed there and I was disappointed.

MINUSES

a.) I found the room very "old": the style of furniture used , soiled rugs, no flat-screen TV ...

b.) The club lounge is big but very sterile. They had a huge number of staff but noone offered re-fills at cocktail hour.

c.) I was surprised to read on this thread that this hotel was cited by one poster as having the best restaurants in the city. I could not disagree more. (The best meal I had was at the Italian restaurant at the Regent - I highly recommend it.)

d.) Aside from the proximity to the Petronas Towers (which is fantastic to look at), it's not very central - especially vis-a-vis evening entertainment areas.

PLUSES

a.) The staff was excellent - no refills aside. The number of people who addressed me by name was simply unbelievable.

b.) The car service was excellent - especially that they had both deluxe cars and more economy cars. [Perhaps all hotels have this in KL ?]

I'll be trying the Regent next.
