Also remember the general directive given durring boarding; "All electronic devices must be turned off and stowed, untill further notified by the crew."
My search of the FAR's was admittingly brief, so I would like to know if I missed one that covers the stowed part.
Regardless of the outcome of that search, any instruction given by a crew member must be followed. My only objection is to using the catch all phrase it's a FAR, or FAA requirement, when in reality it is the airline or PIC's requirement.
