For those of you who have used a SWU to upgrade on LH, who do you ask for the upgrade? Do you request the upgrade from the check in agent? Or, do you have to request it directly from the Gate Agent?

My hope is that I can inform the check in agent of my wish to Upgrade when I check my bags and get my boarding pass. Then, my upgrade would clear at the gate.

I just a bit confused because last time the check in agent told me there was no "Upgrade list" she could place me on. If that's the case, how will they know I want to upgrade?

Does checking in early help?

I always do it at the gate, however a co-worker has told me that when he does it at the time of booking sometimes it goes through and they never ask for the paper certificate at the airport.
