Mykonos closer to Athens which will allow you to spend the max. time on an island and it does offer good, if not S. Pacific paradise type beaches. It is fairly touristy and, depending on whom you believe, quite a major gay & lesbian destination.
Most of the beaches I saw on Thira (Santorini) and Mykonos are not the pure sand beaches but rather a more Mediterraen type rocky shore and would come as a surprise if you're used to Caribbean beaches, for example.
You all have given me plenty to chew on and research. I will book in the next couple of days. Thanks agin for all the great advice. I will bump this thread or start a separate thread to discuss the merits of the various islands after doing some research this weekend. That seems like a whole other topic!!!!!!!!!!!!
