I-94w problem AGAIN!

Hi,

I went through the same probelm last year. But this time the situation is a little different.

I am an Italian citizen living in Canada as a temporary resident (soon to become a permanent resident, though ).

I always travel to the US under the visa waiver program (I always go for short stays....between a couple of hours (taco bell! lol) and a couple of days (I go see some friend)) and I usually cross the border by car. This means that if I still have a valid I-94W in my passport I don't have to get off the car and go inside to fill out an I-94W. That's the reason why I always try to have one in my passport.

I have a problem now, though. Last time I went to the US (one month ago), I did not “surrender” my I-94w to the Canadian immigration officer. I was sure I would have gone back to the US before the expiration date of the green form.

Now I find myself with an I-94w that is bound to expire in 2 days and I really don't feel like going to the border tomorrow just to return it.

You might say, just send it to that address in KY and they'll take care of it. That's exactly what I ended up doing last year and when I went back to the US after a couple of months I had no problems whatsoever.

Unfortunately, I have a trip to NC scheduled for the 20th of this month (in a week).

Should I go to the post office tomorrow and mail the form back (along with supporting evidence that I left the US on time) by registered mail? I'm sure that my paperwork would not be processed by the 20th, however this way I'd have proofed of the fact that I followed their rules.

OR

Should I just show up on the 20th with the expired form in my passport and some evidence that I left the US on time (credit card statements, passport stamps, etc)?

Any comment/personal experience would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!
