My own two cents: You won't be able to get it split, if only due to the fact that the itinerary would need to be reticketed to have the correct e-coupons (or even worse if a paper ticket, the correct paper coupons).

The one hope that you would have (that wouldn't involve a change fee) were if there was some sort of schedule change and could get them to move around your segments a tiny bit to alleviate whatever inconvenience that you claimed it that the schedule change caused you. In such a situation, status will help your position.
