Bear in mind that your chances of being able to use this on the non-stop HKG-JFK are so close to zero as makes no difference (as a Diamond I am currently struggling to get on that flight with a revenue (A) ticket).
I reckon you'd have a reasonable chance on CX888 though (and personally I would prefer to take the extra 2 hours and be on the B744 rather than the A346, but I have a connection I have to make in JFK, and 888 is hopeless for connecting onwards).
Wow... you have actually been able to get on 830/831 in A class? Is that ex HKG? If so please tell me the fare you got. I have never been able to do that. Getting "A" class inventory means the difference between F and J for me.
OT: I still find the schedule terrible, both ways. Not much they can do about the outbound ex HKG due to sector timings, but the return should in my opinion be changed to an overnight i.e. similar to 889 but departing later and arriving around the same time.
