Unfortunately, I normally so much luggage when I travel that I do not think the small plane to Dunk Island would cope. It is something silly 10 or 16 kgs per person isnt it?

The baggage allowance on the Cairns/Dunk Island flights is very small, however there is another way of getting there.
You can get a transfer bus or car rental down to Mission Beach which is about 150km south of Cairns, then get a boat transfer to Dunk Island. Bedarra Island's boat met us off the Dunk Island boat, the Quickcat company liaises with Bedarra and Dunk to ensure transfers go smoothly. Once we got to the jetty at Mission Beach we never had to lift our bags again until we were in our accommodation at Bedarra Island. I would imagine if you get the transfer from Cairns Airport to the Jetty at Mission Beach you wouldn't touch them after meeting the bus at Cairns Airport. There's not really any limit to the amount of luggage you can take via the boat transfer route, but of course it does take longer.
