How safe is it around Gare de L'Est at night?
Hi,

I will be staying at the Villa Saint Martin Hotel on rue des Recollets 2 blocks from Gare de L'Est and I intend to do some walking during early morning and late night. Some guidebooks suggest to avoid Gare de L'Est and Gare du Nord at night. Do you think it is that bad? East of rue des Recollets is the Canal St. Martin so I think going in an East/South East direction should be pretty safe. Any recommendations for restaurants or bakeries around?
