for US based members the UA status, for upgrade possibilities on Inner-US-flights,(1K: free Shuttle upgrade, 500er and North American upgrades, plus the systemwides) are a (very good) reason to maintain also 1K status.
Based in the U.S., if I wouldn't do enough status miles to maintain status in two programs, and if my flight miles would be more than 40 per cent inner-US flights, and may be also 1-2 transpacific flights (without any LH 'coverage' there), I would give priority to maintain my UA 1K status.
