[QUOTE=mre123it's still as a lake .
when i've been there the waves are rolling breakers like the north atlantic- maybe storms at sea?
"You can hang out at the many hotels along the beach, (i.e. the intercontinental, the el san juan, the ritx carlton)"
as i remember, the interconti was requiring colored wristbands to use the hotel facilities. yes the beach is public= and maybe a $5 tip will get you a hotel chair- but the pool is not "open to the public". of course, the casinos anywhere are open to anyone- i hope you like stale cigarette smoke!
"You can also do something similar to that on a boat to culebra where you can see the world famous flamingo beach.[/QUOTE]
but that's not what the OP requested- i think they envision a cap juluca type of vacation, not to be found in PR
do check out Paradisus- it is oceanfront (but sneakily they don't say beachfront- because it's rocks and grass) at about $500/day all inclusive. you can mellow for a week without budging
(oh, ok. you are right at the rain forest so check it out)- and drive one day to the Westin Rio Mar, the El Con, even to Palmas Del Mar, to see if any might better fit your desires
