I think you will be pleased with the airport in general and the staff/people in particular. Do not hastate to ask anyone one that seems like a "local" almost anything. You will likely find them very accommodating and gracious, at least that is my experience.

Rocket scientists...only at the space center but Houston has more than its share IMHO. Good folks, yes, but crime is also present. Remember that Houston is the 4th most populace city in the US; arguably the 3rd. Sooooooooo enjoy your brief visit, be prepared to suffer high tourist taxes (rental autos, hotels, etc.) but at least you are arriving in what is traditionally the best part of the year re weather conditions. Hope you like golf, tennis, or other outdoor sports and have time for same. Great if you do!
