Stayed 4 nights this past week. Checked into a FI Monday and my room was clearly labeled no smoking on the door and in the room. Yet I had to ask for a different room due to a cigarette odor permeated the room.

On Wednesday was in a Courtyard. Early one morning smelled strong cigarette odor in my bathroom. It was coming through the exhaust fan which must be connected to other rooms. As I left you could smell cigarette odor in the hallway in front of two doors next to each other, which were next to my door.

I had heard from a co-worker who smokes that (at least some) Marriott chain hotels were quietly not enforcing the sanctions for illegal smoking. (So they were told but I also realize its hearsay). Unfortunately I get headaches if I'm around cigarette odors for any length of time. If they don't end up enforcing it eventually, a majority of rooms will eventually have the lingering effect of smokers. In this case I'd just as soon see them reatain smoking rooms so I can try to avoid them.
