Capital One sends me checks on regular basis - NO FEES, NO INTEREST, just like a regular charge. If my closing date is the 1st of the month and they get the check on the 2nd of the month, I'm good to go until they send me the statement.
Indeed. Citi is quite happy to send me "convenience checks," as they're apparently known. In fact, when I first got my Platinum Select card with an 18 month 0% APR they were a bit pushy about trying to send me a large "convenience check" when I asked about making a balance transfer! (I actually would've gone with a convenience check for most of my credit limit to earn money on before paying it back, but being out of the country for an extended period, decided not to.)

I only deal with the Chairman CSRs for all my Citi cards now, and they've been trained to be friendly instead of pushy.
