First, Thank you for your input. I too agree it is totaly fair for Delta to sell F. My point is is it fair to sell _up fares that are lower in cost than B or Y let alone A and F. This is what I feel is unfair. Basicly they are selling an economy fair (Q) and offering a confirmed F seat. If they take your miles which do also have some value you should have priority over Coach passangers. This is not the case with this fare. Like most otheres I too would like this low fare on Rev. However DL losses nothing in dollars by just selling the fare and seat the economy passange is paying For. My award is 140,000 miles and should have some priority.
think you've got it correct. I think the OP's issue is that Delta is selling coach fares (QUP) that book into first before they clear his F waitlist.
To answer OP's question I think it's fair for Delta to do this and I'm pretty sure it happens quite often. In my opinion even though it is a QUP fare it is not very different from a discounted first class fare and Delta will keep selling them while they can.
I support your commetn if DL was selling a normal fare A or F. That is why an airline is in business. They do need to make a profit. But noone including me can expect a discounted Y seat to be freely upgraded to F.
Let me state it another way, say you bought a Q that was not auto upgraded at the time you paid the same as other who get it later. DO you feel this is fair???
What if a PM is waiting for an upgrade on this flight from dicounted Y, Is this fair???
My point is the deeply disconted fair being upgraded at time of purchase. Not a normal YUP that most of us are a custom to and maybe some other posters ar thinking.
The fair for a QUP is half of the YUP on this route.
