I read in the Daily News (IIRC) that there was a stabbing in the 8th Ave./14th St. station the weekend before last in the early morning hours on Sunday.
And also I'm acquainted with several people who, just over the past year, have been robbed (armed and not) - not necessarily on the subway, but in "trendy" areas, after dark.
Most people who ride the subway after midnight probably do so without incident, but do not take your safety for granted, is I guess the salient point.
