It was a single hijacker, unarmed he got into the cockpit, told the pilot there were two of them. Pilot may have gone along because of the claim of an accomplice, and anyway since the guy wanted to land, that would be a suitable action from the pilots standpoint. It landed at Brindisi, released everyone and surrendered.
