Need suggestions to make my husband's flight less hellish
Here's a challenge for the experts.
I am a lowly 2P who will soon be taking a very long flight (to Sydney from SFO) in business class. My husband is joining me after my business trip and we are taking some vacation time together. He's going coach on an award flight (60k, such a deal!).
I'm feeling really guilty that he has to fly coach, especially on such a long flight (LAX to SYD), and am trying to figure out if there's anything I can do to make him more comfortable.
I can't upgrade him, I don't have enough status or upgrades. We don't have enough miles to buy an economy ticket and then use miles to upgrade him to business class. I considered buying him that "economy plus access" thing so he could at least be in Economy Plus but he doesn't want to spend the $299 since he's unlikely to fly United again any time soon.
I couldn't even get him a window seat ... and the thought of him sitting in coach in a MIDDLE SEAT all the way to Australia ... the guilt is giving me a stomach ache!
As an aside - we are not on the same outbound flights going out, but are returning on the same flights. Flights were booked separately. I suppose I might be 1P on the way home although I haven't actually done the math yet. I wonder if that helps... has anyone got a suggestion for me?
Thanks,
Truly
