Actually if you purchase a RT ticket you can extend miles for one year, or at least that is what I was told. Pretty lousy extension I must admit. The one thousand miles will help me with free ticket but will not extend eligibility. If you have some orphan miles you can still combine up to three accounts for one award. Could help someone.
