I have been politely reminded of this at times when I have schmoozed an upgrade at gate - on a variety of carriers.
"We can't guarantee a business class meal choice Sir at this late stage" type reply.
Of course who here is even going to knock back a better seat?
And in
all cases the meals were offered perfectly normally anyway. ^
