I'm posting for a relative who is travelling. She will be flying into Newark and will have an 8 hour stopover. Does anyone have any suggestions on some quick things to do in NYC? I was thinking that she could get the train to the city and walk around certain areas. She will get in at 11 and leave at roughly after 7. Take the airtrain (assuming she's bagless) to Penn station. She can visit Macy's (briefly) right after getting to penn station, on her way to the empire state building at 34th and 5th avenue. After that, if the weather's nice, hop in a cab straight down 5th avenue to 23rd street and 5th avenue and see madison square park (site of the original madison square garden) and the flatiron building, and if there's some time and the line is short, grab a burger and a milkshake at shake shack -
http://www.shakeshacknyc.com/ . then hop a cab back to penn station and reverse the air train. Might be a little tight if there's a line for the empire state building, but otherwise should work.
