Microcell was going away, it was just a matter of Rogers being the only logical purchaser due to the GSM vs. CDMA issue.
JetsGo improved things for the Canadian consumer, one might argue, but their model is not sustainable.
The only new "major" operators one is likely to see in Canada would be MVNOs like Virgin Mobile. The cost of the infrastructure is too high, and the existing carriers are too entrenched. In the US, you may see a major "new" carrier through the alliance between the major cable companies and Sprint Nextel, but here in Canada, the major cable company of course is Rogers.
We'll see if Wireless Number Portability (if it happens) shakes things up a bit next year.
It has had little to no impact in the US market.
