I've not checked bags for long time until my recent IAH-OAK trip. Since I was sitting on the right side of the plane on both flights, I could see the baggage being loaded. For BOTH FLIGHTS, Priority-tagged bags were held on the tarmac and loaded last.

FOR BOTH FLIGHTS, those bags - including mine - came out first at the carousel.

So, they work, at least SOME OF THE TIME.
