Mind you--the winner gets $2200, 2nd gets $1500, 3rd gets $750, so I'm thinking that even if I can't catch the guy leading, just let the other dude get knocked out first and get into second as it's another $750. Well they deal, blinds are pretty high, the leader folds, so it's just me and the guy that I am tied with. I have pocket aces. I put a big bet out there and he goes in with me. Flop comes down--3 10's. So I'm thinking that unless that guy is holding a 10, I've got this won. He puts a decent bet forward--and I've watched how this guy has played all tourney and know that if he's got something he's likely going to go all in or not bet and try to trap me. So I know he's got something, but not better than my pocket aces. So I go all in. He goes with me, we flip em over and he's got pocket jacks. Nice. Turn comes down something harmless. Then the river gets flipped over--jack. His jacks over 10s beats my tens over aces. I'm left with 1 chip which I lose shortly afterwards. I was one card away from being about tied with the leader and going after the main prize of $2200, but that card relegated me to $750.
I HATE pocket Aces!!!
I think I've played them every which way, aggressive preflop, on the flop etc...Slow played them too and I feel like I always get them cracked. My last frustrating experience the flop showed a 3rd Ace, diamonds, and another diamond, turn was a 3rd diamond, yep you guessed it...Beaten by the Ace high flush.
The last tourney I played was paying to 3 places and I was in the final 4. I get Kowboys in position...Yeah I'm stoked, the 1st player folds, 2nd calls, 3rd raises 2x the blind and I re-raise 5x the blinds, 2nd folds, 3rd calls. Flop is A,K,K. 3rd goes all in, I call, she shows the boat A's full of K's and just about throws a tantrum when I show the quads. She went out, I'm in the money and ended up 2nd.
I think I'm just gonna fold the rockets from now on
