Ba 2884 Lgw-alg

Tried to OLCI for my flight the day before, but OLCI said that flight was unavailable for OLCI. So I called the web support help desk and was told this is a known bug in the OLCI software. How nice. Fortunately in J with a good seat, so not so much a problem.

Flight leaves at a civilised 11:35, but had been hearing queues have been bad given the UK hand baggage restrictions, so I decided to leave at 8:30. Unfortunately my cab was twenty minutes late (grrr!); however traffic to LGW wasn't bad and made it there in good time. No queue at the Club check-in desks. Boarding pass was printed and headed to the now defunct 'FastTrack'. It's now just labelled FastTrack but BA do not operate it any more. There were some Thomas Cook cabin crew that were approached by a chap who made them check in their 'oversize' hand baggage. It wasn't that big really and was quite reasonable. Shame more could not be said for the silly UK restrictions. Queue wasn't too bad and was through security in about 10 minutes.

Headed to the shops for some odds and ends, but now in hindsight realised I wanted to sign up for IRIS. Oh well. The Gatwick Terraces was fairly busy, but did manage to ask and get a glass of champagne. Was very surprised that there was no WiFi i the lounge. I had thought BA were in cahoots with Vodafone or BT. Anyway there was a decent selection of pastries, cereals, yogurt, jams and toast. Sadly they don't seem to put out any savories, so had to contend myself with toast and Marmite.

The flight departed from the 100 series gates, so left the lounge in good time as I knew it was a bit of a walk over that Gatwick Bridge. Got to the gate, but we waited there for a while as this flight was combined with the flight to Hasi Messoud. Which now explains why, when checking in the agent said the flight on the boarding pass was different then what I had booked. Not a problem so just sat there read for a bit. Flight was called and boarding was quick as it was only half full.

There was someone sat next to me, but once boarding completed, I offered to move to the block of three that was empty in my road. However the chap in the aisle very kindly said he would move. After takeoff hot towels were offered and then the drinks trolley came trough. A few champagnes later and we were offered lunch. Today there was no choice and the main was baked cod on penne pasta with a cream sauce and mushy peas (yes really). It wasn't too bad and the cod was much nicer than the cod I had in Club World to LA last month. There was cheese and biscuits and some sort of lemmony pudding cake (which I took a bite of and left it). Tea and coffee were then offered and I chose more champagne (as one must).

We arrived only twenty minutes late. The airport terminal is brand new and unlike the notes I was given, there was a jet way to the terminal. Then down through immigration and customs (which was very quick) and I was off to the Hilton.
