Make sure you have a hard case for your guitar. I encountered a poor kid who was forced to gate check his guitar, saw it drop off the belt, and in Paris the extremely unhelpful Delta agent told him that they had no responsibility since the guitar was not in a hard case.

So… try to carry it on board and if not make sure they will be responsible for any damage.
