This saves me the cost of purchasing the supplemental liability insurance, which typically costs about $11-$13/day. Details on the Avis insurance coverage here:

A great point thank you. Very useful for me if it works. ^

Was not aware of this aspect.

EVERY time we rent in the USA we need to take that cover which costs me about $US100 a week for that insurance cover. (NONE of my ozzie vehicle insurance covers me, and credit cards here do not either.)

Would this cover be included even if I rent and am NOT a USA resident? This is all the info it offers on that link:

enhanced primary liability insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000/$25,000 at participating locations

maximum personal liability of $5,000 for damages to the rental car at participating locations if you decline to purchase the loss/damage waiver option. Review your personal auto insurance policy to determine if you need to purchase this option; certain credit card companies may provide this benefit at no charge. If you do not purchase the waiver, the AARP benefit will limit your responsibility for damages to the rental car to no more than $5,000.
