[QUOTE=Jenbel]Yes (if I took it the day I was checking out) and yes. You mean you don't?
Oh no. I ALWAYS tell the front desk upon check-out what I utilized during my entire stay. Sometimes the mini-bars don't get checked daily. If I had a DND on my door, then the hotel probably wasn't able to check what I utilized the day before.
What I was trying to say is I wonder how many people are actually honest & upfront and take personal responsibility for these charges? It seems to me it has become an "us against them" mentality of trying to milk everything until it's bone dry. While traveling, I have once overheard a traveler saying, "oh yeah, if you call up a hotel & say you didn't eat from the honor bar (even though you did), they will take it off the bill." How did we come to a world of where an entire industry gets bilked by consumers when all they are trying to do is run a business and ensure their guests have great experiences during their stay?? I read a blog here where a consumer wasn't happy with the way a hotel company was changing their loyalty program = i.e., not as many freebies, and their remedy was to steal some towels on their next stay to make up for it. It just seems such a disgrace that so many people are looking for "loopholes" & trying to "work the system" but not in a positive way. I think using "scam" by the OP for this was just a bit abrasive...to me a scam is one of those telemarketers calling telling me I can get free $$$ from the government but all I need to do is to give them my bank account #...now that's a SCAM!
It would be a great world if we could all get everything we wanted from every company we dealt with but that is just not realistic.
Oh, and I always also leave $2 per day for the housekeepers...they work really hard and sometimes work under some pretty physical conditions we don't realize.
Here's an ethical (rethorical) questioin to ponder:
If you did utilize the mini-bar but notice nothing was posted on your bill (or any future cc statements), would you ever call up the hotel later on and advise them they didn't charge you???
