You're best bet is to interline your bags through and continue onto your Hawaiian segment without exiting the secure area of the airport. At worst, if your bags misconnect, they'll show up on the next flight ...and if you're not at the airport, they'll send them off to your hotel.
Agreed. That is, of course, you're looking at the last flight of the day to the interisland destination. Then, if your bags don't make your connection, they'll end up going out the next day.
I would still interline in the OP's situation.
