It's worth noting that AA already DOES do this, if you think about it. That's what the Aadvantage program is. It's not an exact science but typically if you buy 9 tickets that cost $2000 you've probably earned enough miles by doing that flying to buy yourself the 10th ticket for free with miles.
I know that's not what you asked, but the AAdvantage program is designed to do this already. If you're PLT and you fly to asia twice on CX with an H fare (coach) you've earned enough miles with the bonuses to buy the next trip for free, and have change left over. That's over a 33% discount, if you did that trip every week, as just one city-pair example. Your city-pair example is probably similar, roughly, depending on distance and COS.
Not a bad deal when you think about it.
