You thought wrong, it must be Oneworld metal (ie. both marketed and operated by a OW airline). But most of the OW airlines have non-OW bilaterals which do earn mileage and sometimes even status on other non-OW airlines (making some of those arrangements pretty similar to OW from a FF standpoint). At first I thought these were legacy agreements which would age out and not be renewed as they expire, reflecting the new world of airline alliances, but many have been renewed. AA, BA, QF, CX have all done this (and probably so have the other 4 OW airlines).
