From "The Korea Herald" Jan. 17, 2000:
"U.S. DOD BANS EMPLOYEES FROM FLYING KAL"

The U.S. Department of Defense has instructed its staff not to fly on Korean Air following a cargo plane crash in England last month, sources said yesterday.

A civil aviation ratings board at the department put Korean Air on temporary ban list Dec. 22, the day of the crash. This
bars department employees from using the South Korean airline on official business, the sources said.

Korean Air was put on the list once before in April last year after one of its freight planes crashed soon after take off from Shanghai airport.

The restriction was lifted last November.

The sources said the defense department issued the instruction to the U.S. Forces in Korea on Dec. 23, effective immediately.
