So you have to either phone the AC res or go through a TA.
(To some extent you can check for star alliance flights on the Aeroplan site.)
In this instance, I found that when going to TPE the best connection point was HKG (if I remember correctly connecting in ICN entailed spending over 24 hours there - the one Thai daily flight leaves shortly after the AC flight gets there, but it's not a legal connection). On the way back ICN works well.
As to the M fare, looking at my itinerary, the basic fare is CAD 2115 (including Navcan). If on EVA, the basic M fare would be CAD 2110-2140 depending upon the days (on the days I am booked, it's the former). There is however a big difference in the AC fuel tax. I paid an XT total of CAD 297.31 vs. 189.10. My itinerary hides how much of this is the AC fuel tax (there may be some charges from HKG and ICN also).
I didn't explain very well, I am sorry. I meant just and M fare YVR - ICN on AC as M is upgradable at time of booking. The closest I found was an H fare which I can upgrade 4 days before on TourEast for about $ 1,400.00.
My idea was to buy an M fare to ICN, upgrade and buy a seperate ticket to TPE. But if M fare to HKG is better I rather go through HKG and connect there even it means I have to back track a little.
I did do the M fare to HKG and it worked out o.k. from there I bought seperate tickets to BKK, SIN and MNL.
