But we were looking at C class (or upgrade). One revenue plus one Aeroplan. Given that the EVA C-class on their 747s is not great, that the Aeroplan reward on that flight would have been a pure AC at 115 k miles, vs. 100 k for a Star reward, and that I could get a confirmed upgrade on an M fare on AC flights for about $2400 with all taxes including the AC fuel tax, we ended up getting tickets going through HKG on the way there and ICN on the way back. A bit longer but we'll sleep better and it's quite a bit cheaper.
I have been thinking to do the same, get an M fare YVR-HKG and do an instant upgrade. M fare to HKG is very reasonable, one of the most reasonable ones to Asia on AC. From HKG just buy a seperate ticket to TPE, they are usually inexpensive and the flight only takes just over an hour.
AC Executive First on the A343 and even the 767's is definetly way ahead of BR's "Super Business Class".
I never seem to be able to get a good M fare to ICN.
